Dr. David Skarin has lived all but his first fourteen years in the Naperville area. He was a 1970 graduate of Naperville Central High School and attended Northwestern University, where he majored in Biology and History while a four years starter in baseball and a two year starter in football, receiving a full scholarship for the latter. After graduating in 1974, he entered Northwestern's highly regarded Dental School where he received undergraduate awards for his interest in orthodontics. Upon graduation from dental school, Dr. Skarin went directly into the two year graduate orthodontic program at Northwestern, under the direction of Dr. Harold Perry, a world renouned researcher in temporomandibular disorders (TMJ). After graduating from the graduate program in orthodontics in 1980 with a Master's Degree to accompany his D.D.S. degree, Dr. Skarin opened his own private practice in downtown Naperville while agreeing to associate with Dr. Perry in his Elgin office.
In 1981, Dr Skarin was notified that there was a need for an orthodontist in Yorkville, Illinois, whereupon he opened a second office. I n 1985, Dr. Skarin was asked by Dr. Perry to join the orthodontic faculty at Northwestern, where for thirteen years, he was an Assistant Clinical Professor of Orthodontics. He taught orthodontic and orthognathic surgical principles in the graduate department as well as didactic courses to the undergraduate dental students until the school was closed. His time teaching orthognathic surgical orthodontics came when orthognathic surgery was experiencing its halcyon days.
